What types of law do you practice?
Wimer & Jobe handles all types of complex civil litigation
and select transactions for small businesses. Our areas
of practice include appellate law, catastrophic injuries,
class actions, complex litigation, consumer law, employment
law, insurance claims, international law, and small business
transactions.
What types of law do you not practice?
Wimer & Jobe does not handle criminal cases, traffic
tickets, workers’ compensation, social security disability,
divorces, custody cases, adoptions, wills or real estate transactions.
How do I choose a lawyer?
Perhaps the most important aspect of the attorney-client
relationship is trust. If you do not trust that your attorney
has the skill, experience and dedication to represent you,
you should get a different
lawyer.
What are your hourly rates?
Our hourly rates for legal services vary case by case, depending
on the complexity of the legal matter and the attorneys who
work on the case.
Do you charge consultation fees?
For most cases, we provide a free telephone consultation
for new clients. For cases that fit within our contingent-fee
criteria, we do not charge consultation fees. You will never
receive a bill or charge for services from Wimer & Jobe
unless you have agreed to retain us as your attorneys.
What if I can’t afford to hire a lawyer?
We represent many of our clients on a contingent-fee basis,
and attorney fees are owed only if we obtain some recovery
for you. Ask us if your case fits our contingent-fee criteria.
If you cannot afford an attorney and your legal matter cannot
be handled on a contingent-fee basis, your problem may fall
under the jurisdiction of a governmental agency such as the
North Carolina Department of Labor, the North Carolina Department
of Justice, or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
In that case, we suggest you contact those agencies through
the websites available on our links page.
You may also wish to call a legal aid agency such as Pisgah
Legal Services (“PLS”). PLS is a non-profit legal
services agency serving indigent residents of Western North
Carolina. In addition to performing legal work in- house,
PLS refers cases to outside lawyers who focus or specialize
in various areas of law. PLS phone number is 828-253-0406.
Do I really need to consult an attorney?
We highly recommend that you consult with an attorney on
any legal issue. The legal system is complicated, and there
are many pitfalls for those who are not thoroughly familiar
with the system and know how to navigate it.
With that said, certain types of matters that involve less
than $4,000 can often be resolved in small claims court, where
attorneys are not required.
Should I consult with an attorney before signing
a contract?
As with medicine, it is equally true in law that an ounce
of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Having an attorney
review contracts and other documents before you sign them
will help ensure that you thoroughly understand your rights
and obligations. In many instances, contract terms can be
negotiated in a way that will minimize the risks of expensive
disputes or litigation down the road. The up-front cost of
avoiding disputes is usually a small fraction of the cost
of hiring a lawyer to represent you in a lawsuit. We practice
preventive law and litigation avoidance.
